I have a valid excuse...

Oh blog world, I have missed thee.....
I was led astray by life and its complications and distractions, and well life in general.

I must admit though I have been working on a big project for the last six months or so. Its pulled me away from my machine and led me to some work on the couch on it, its more freelance than I'm used to, but it has literally drained me of any creativity or oomph I normally have for new projects.

The long term project should be completed by the end of February 2011 and will prefer to be paired with pinks and purples.

(translation: I am 7months pregnant and just now admitting it to the world)

forgive me?

Friends of friends....and so forth.

You don't know how giddy I was when I received a random email a couple months ago.
Seriously, I was grinning for a couple days.
And I'm not a grinner, I'm more of a raised eyebrow kinda girl.

Way back when this little blog started off, there was a blogpost of a new product I was testing out. I had a remnant of this cute green turtle flannel and wanted to try something new. It was my first changing pad that I toyed around with, but it didn't last long in my hands after I was chatting with a friend about it. She grabbed it up within 48hours of its completion.

Turns out the receiver of that turtle set, reached out to little ol' me to pass on the love to some of her friends as well!! Talk about an endorsement, right? Seems 2010 is a busy year for her friends, we ended up making two different sets for the month of August.

A lovely girly changing pad and burpcloth set in purple dragonflies.

And then a awesome boy changing pad and burpcloth set in this cute boy block print.

Where did September go????

Woah...the entire month of September totally snuck through there didn't it?
Did you feel it? It was a swift breeze in the 99* temps down here in Austin that wasn't cooling at all until this past week.

Just a friendly post to let everyone know that I'm still chugging along with sewing projects and will truly hope to post more often, despite my work blocking even google reader! (crazy isn't it???) Despite my not having enough energy or oomph at the end of the day to turn on the home laptop, yep...I'm justifying my slackerness.

But I've been charitable does that count?
A baby blanket were given to my work for their charity auction that raised $50.
and I'm donating another blanket to a local PTO silent auction later this month.

And a long over due post coming up this week about my August projects.

Thanks for continued checking in, I can see that people still swing by somehow.

Feelin the love....

While this attempt and venture into the public realm of sewing for strangers and blogging has been quite the adventure and test of my anxiety about anonymity. I normally crave for anonymity, like the girl who sneaks into a party and just people-watch, that's me.

We are feeling the love lately, and I can't help but blush.

Remember the "O'Tennessee" bag? that infamous bag that didn't realize that Tennessee and Kentucky are close to one another but are not the same? Yep, that bag. Onna, the sweetheart that she is, blogged and bragged about the bag and story.

I have always loved her blog and how she captures her daughter's daily activities and smiles, so being featured along side those smiles makes me blush.

Onna's other greatness besides Sydney? She totally rocks with designs and layouts!
My lovely banner here is courtesy of Miss O herself!

My first blog award!

I never expected an award for my dribble here, I don't post nearly as often as I'd like to, and I can't enjoy it from work at all (darn photo filtering firewalls) so I was literally shocked to receive an award from Mom of All Trades (back in July)

I started this blog with one intent, to show and chat about my sewing adventures whether they be successful or complete embarassing failures, so to learn that people enjoy reading along makes me smile.

My blogging philosophy in five words?

There is Humor in Everything

I hope I don't fail with the rules of the award:
*Thank the blogger who awarded it to you. - CHECK :)
*Sum up your blogging philosophy, motivation, and experience using five (5) words. - CHECK
*Pass it on to 10 other blogs which you feel have real substance. - Eeek, 10?? I've drafted this post for over a month hoping to find time to ooh and aaah over other blogs, but just have lost time. How about my favorite four for now?

I'd like to forward this award to some other blogs I've found on my fieldtrips

Austin + San Antonio + Tennessee = One busy girl!

I was off to such a great start with this blog thing, I was enthralled with it all. I became a slight addict, collecting more and more blogs to follow and keep up with. Then the inevitable happened....

I hope I'm not the first to admit defeat of the blog invasion?

July was a busy busy month, no actually June AND July were both busy. Busy at the real work that isn't quite as creative as the job I have with my White, but I was busy with White as well.

So busy that I forgot to take pictures of a couple items.

A safari green set of burpcloths and a changing pad for Austin, TX.
A boy fleece blanket of old vintage toys for San Antonio, TX.

And most recently I did a baby girl set Tennessee. But this time I remembered to take a picture to share :) I loved this set, I had to admit to the owner that its a new favorite and I ran out to buy the other versions of the print (a green and blue) because it worked out perfectly for the changing pad shape and size.

The upcoming week I have two more sets to get shipped out, so lets all hope that I remember to take pictures and share before the packaging is sealed!

I did a bad bad thing...

I took a mini-blog break. Not only did I not post any goodness that I worked on in the month of July but I also didn't blog about any other goodness I found.

I made the even worse faux pass of skipping out on your blogs out there in craftworld. I skipped out just long enough for my google reader to show in angry red "1000+" unread posts. eek. Yes reader got very upset with me, and now reader isnt talking to me because I broke its heart by simply pressing a button or two to say 'mark all as read.' (blush)

Fear not for I did remember to snap some pics yesterday of the latest package being shipped out today! Now if only the photos could magically appear and blog themselves. do all the bloggers who work fulltime and have families manage to keep up in this crazyblog land??

Monkey business

While I worked on the duck blanket I had to take a break from it. I was drained and needed some oomph to bring me back into my sewing game.
I decided to finally break into my favorite fun remnant of these cute guys.

End result was two sets of two 'monkey business' burpcloths with no owner.
HINT HINT = I'm tempted to let something like this end up as a giveaway some time.

Have a great Monday everyone!!

Invitation inspiration

Wow, it seems forever that I've been able to blog about my own stuff! But truthfully the lapse in blogging about projects is solely due to the time devoted to the projects! Essentially, the busier with sewing I am, the less time I have for the fun blogging.

The primary time sucker this past month was a custom job that I hemmed and hawed over for quite some time. I'll admit it, I totally procrastinated with it, stalling as long as I could. I knew I had taken on more than I could chew back when we discussed the project. A woman at work approached me to make a custom blanket for her, that is easy enough, most of my stuff is to order. However, she wanted to re-create the baby shower invitation. Being optimistic and eager, I said 'of course I can do that!' and took the challenge. Wowza. I had alot of learning to do before I tackled this one. Mainly, self-teaching the art of applique is one thing, but then to let the customer decide in flannel? Applique in flannel? Not the easiest feat with its fraying and fuzzing abilities. Nonetheless, I pushed on.

The original inspiration from the shower invitation:

And the final product of the blanket:
Blanket total size is 38x34
The duck was originally to scale but I bumped him up to make him a focal point.
The eye is needlepoint stitchery.
The name is matching cording with a whip stich (by hand).

And since there was leftover fabric, I threw in some burpcloths made of the same materials.
And now onto other fun projects!!

Snow White Baby

My son had the fun kindergarden experience of his teacher being pregnant and getting a cute baby belly by the end of the year. Her name is Mrs. White, and being so clever just like his momma, my clever son suggested the name of 'Snow' if the baby is a girl. I thought it was a great suggestion, but won't be disappointed if she and her husband opt not for the punny name.

They are having a girl who is due next month in July, and well it totally worked in my favor when it came time for a 'thank you' gift for the end of the year.

I'm lucky to have random fabric to make a cute present at 10pm the night before its due.

Blog Love: Kate Bentley Photography

I've mentioned this Needle Guru before, for being a superwoman photographer, momma, and knitting genious.

But she is also a much better blogger and has shared the love of Stitch n'Giggles on her photography blog, she luckily has great taste in blankets and I have great taste in friends {heart}

Not only has she shamelessly plugged Stitch n'Giggles, but she and I are planning a first tutorial for both of us!! Check out her call for models in the Wisconsin area on Kate Bentley Photography and the details of the offer.

As a bonus to her awesome pictures, the family who contacts her will receive a 'thank you' gift from Stitch n'Giggles!! If you are in the Wisconsin area, or willing to meet Kate somewhere, look at our plans and take advantage of this great opportunity!!

Friday Fieldtrip ~ June 4

I have to admit that I'm enjoying sharing all my finds!!

So I had a custom blanket that was due by months' end. It required an applique of a duck and a name in script. Let me explain this conundrum: I am new to applique AND I have horrible script. The script is easy enough to print out a template from online using a font of some sort, but to have to applique it put me back to the problem #1.
My timidness led me to discover all sorts of tutorials on stenciling with freezer paper(big grin here!!)

I read various ones, but have to admit that Jess from Running with Scissors made it simple enough for even me to think to try it sometime!
*Don't worry! I completed the custom blanket with a twist on the applique request, blog post coming soon!

I MUST make this! I have one kid and his birthday is this July, this project is too adorable and can be used over and over! (for south TX though I ought to pack it away indoors, the heat will not be nice to balloons and their vibrant colors)
She gives the full tutorial at How Does She?

This past week or two has been the last week of school for almost all elementary kids I know, my own kindergartner has now been promoted to the even cooler status of a First grader. In honor of the end of the year many parents (okay its 99% of the mother's but I'm trying to be PC) ended up giving their teachers at least a thank you card.
I have to admit that I cheated and stole this idea from The Simpler Life with her teacher appreciation poem. (I gave some homemade cookies made with M&Ms)

Now 'angry chicken' isn't a new place, most crafters know if it by I don't want to be redundant about that blog.
BUT, I have to send you there for a treat this week! Maybe its just me and my carb-ilious tendencies, but I drooled with her post about Homemade BAGELS! Literally drooled onto the desk, had to scramble around for a napkin kinda drool.

If you've found yourself linked into the fieldtrip, just grab our 'featured' button and spread the word :)

Have a great weekend!!

Friday Fieldtrip ~ May 28

Since I'm new into this blogworld, I'm still discovering so much! So I need to take the time and read some of the archives of some of my own blogs that I follow already!
For instance, I visit Quality Time regularly, and commiserate with WW talks often. But I never put two and two together that I had actually bookmarked this tutorial some time ago not realizing it was Angies.
I know that I definately have the scraps around the house for this cute pattern! Time? not so much. Dresden Petal Handbag

I'm not naive enough to ignore the main blogs, the ones that I see on all the sewing blogs. I mean, who could ignore places like Sew Mama Sew, or angry chicken??
But I know that I often miss a post here or there on the main blogs that post so often. And since this is all about sharing those cute finds, I'm sending you right to the PDF directly for a summer dress for little girls! (I can just imagine a friend's daughter, Sammo, having a blast wearing this in a oh so innocent way while wrestling with her big brother at the same time)
Casa Leisure Dress Tutorial

I have to admit that I found the next blog and couldn't help myself but peeking, with a name of "Living with Punks," how could I not?? Turns out to be a cleverly crafty blog!
I have this tutorial bookmarked for a definate home project (that I think hubby would appreciate something for our own home.) I know that he and his friends would embrace these floor cushions, especially if I find some mosaic or Moroccain looking fabric. I am actually stoked to try something out for own house!
Land of Nod Inspired Floor Cushion Tutorial

Now if you've paid attention to my personal sewing, you've realized that I don't work from patterns. I don't know why the idea of a pattern is intimidating, but I like the spontaneaity of the non-patterned type sewing. BUT! This blog's reference to some new Butterick patterns totally might change my mind.
Check them out through Stitches and Seams!

And for viewing fun?
Have you seen WhipUp's Yoda? He's too adorable not to giggle at.

Have a great weekend!!
